May 1 - 5

Hi everyone,

It's May! Wow! We have another short week upon us.

There will be regular homework this week, as students will receive new word study words this week. We will have our quiz on Thursday. Please continue to have your child read 15 - 20 minutes per night, and fill in their reading logs.

I want to congratulate all the students on their awesome efforts for the spring concert. I know that myself and my own children thoroughly enjoyed the show! All the students worked hard and it paid off! Well done!

Important Dates/Upcoming Events:

1. Coupon Books - Please return ALL coupon book order forms whether you sold some or not. The forms must be back to the school by May 2 and 3.

2. Rezoning Letters - These were sent home last week. In these letters it is indicated which school your child will be attending in the fall. It is important that you confirm your address, sign the form, and return it to the school as soon as possible. Thank you for your support.

3. PD Day - Friday, May 5. NO school for students.

Have a fantastic week!

April 24 - 28

Hi everyone!

I just cannot believe we are into our last week of April. The time is flying by!

Everyone has completed their descriptive reports on their province/territory/capital and has shared them with 4B. I have printed them all off and will be sending them home with the students' final feedback this week. They are welcome to keep them!

This is another short week and therefore I have decided NOT to do new words for word study this week. There is a lot going on within the school this week with the Spring concert and Easter Seals, so there will be quite a bit of interrupted class time. I will be sending new words home with your child next week.

Important Dates/Events:

1. Spring Concert (Grades 4 - 6) - Wednesday, April 26 at 6 pm. Please ensure your child is at the school at 5:40. You can pick your child up from our classroom after the concert is over.

2. Easter Seals - We are collecting spare change to donate to Easter Seals. Any extra change you can send in is greatly appreciated!

3. Coupon Books Fundraiser - the order form for coupon books were sent home this past week. Any orders must be returned May 2 or 3 (order forms and money). Even if you do NOT sell any coupon books, please return the order forms.

4. Spring photos - Packages were sent home last week. If you would like to order any part of this package, please return the forms with your payment to the school. If you choose not to order any of the package, please return all materials to the school.

5. PD Day - Friday, April 28 - NO SCHOOL for students.

Have a fantastic week!

April 18 - 21

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful long weekend!

We are collecting spare change for Easter Seals. Anything you are able to donate is greatly appreciated!

The order sheet for the coupon book fundraiser has also gone home. Money raised goes to our school as well as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. Even you do NOT sell any books, please send the form back to the school with your child.

In our classroom:

We are fortunate to have someone from Junior Achievement come in this week and next to do presentations and workshops with our class. The focus is on technology in Canada, Canadian inventors and creative problem solving. This ties in well with our social studies curriculum.

We are also participating in the Great Canadian Mail Race. Students will be choosing a school somewhere else in Canada and will be writing letters to grade 4 students across the country!

Have a great week!

April 10 - 14

Homework:

I will be giving everyone their new word study words this week, but because we have 2 short weeks coming up, students will be responsible for these words this week AND next and we will have our word study quiz next Friday, April 21.

Everyone should be reading nightly for 15-20 minutes, and filling in their reading log.

In our classroom:

We will be sharing our reports with Ms. Pam's 4B class this week. The reports are amazing!

Have a great week!

Sunday, 2 April 2017

April 3 - 7

It will be a short, but busy week! I will be out on Wednesday and Thursday, as my husband is having knee surgery. Ms. Young will be in both mornings!

Important Dates/Events:

1. This week is Library Week at West Royalty Elementary! There will be a mystery reader coming in for the grade 4 classes tomorrow! There will also be daily activities and trivia throughout the week. Thanks to Mrs. MacKinnon for organizing all of this!

2. Tuesday, April 4 - Provincial Science Fair. Good luck to the participants who will be representing our class - Lexi, Julia, Rory, and Carter.

3. Thursday, April 6 - School Heritage Fair

4. Friday, April 7 - PD day - NO school for students!

Just a reminder that the descriptive reports must be completed this week, as we will be sharing them with our own class as well as 4B. Students should have all the materials and log in codes if they need to complete them at home. There will also be time at breaks this week to put the final touches on the reports.

Have a great week!
